Meet Your Host

My name is Katrina, it is nice to meet you! When traveling I love staying with local hosts because it provides me with a different perspective and a personal experience that I just don’t get with traditional hotels. It is a small world and I absolutely live for those 2-3 degrees of separation moments!!

As we have brought on more short term rentals and started a family, I haven’t been able to meet each guest like I once could. Here is a little bit about myself for those who are curious how I ended up in the hospitality field. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or would like some help personalizing your stay. We are grateful to host you during your stay in Portland!

I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts before meeting my husband, Mark, while studying in Vermont. Together we moved to Portland where we started working for a local property management company. After spending seven years immersed in the field and acquiring a few multi-units of our own, we decided to take a break from “the rat race” and move onto a sailboat in Florida with our toddler. Life was good for a while- skipping the Maine winter, outfitting the boat, and exploring a different coastline. Unfortunately, before officially untying the lines and setting sail for more exotic waters, we made the tough decision to put our plans on hold as the solitude wasn’t benefiting our child.

After moving back to New England, we had to figure out a new plan. One day I found myself on Zillow, dreaming of raising our kids in a big home in Portland, when I stumbled across a house in our favorite neighborhood with a huge backyard – almost unheard of in that area. Already a host of a few Airbnb apartments in Portland, I started looking into ways of converting the home into an Airbnb friendly space. Ultimately we would spend the next year turning the home into The Skolfield Inn, a small four bedroom inn, through lots of renovations and licensing with the State (all while welcoming a new baby into the world!). Shortly thereafter, we realized hosting was our passion and we now own and manage a few small inns in Portland, in hopes of welcoming even more visitors to our beloved city.

No matter the season, you will probably see us outside tending to the gardens or catch us cleaning the common areas and rooms if our assistant innkeepers have the day off. In our free time we enjoy cooking, roaming the outdoors (land or sea!), and exploring new places with our two kids.

I credit our wonderful housekeepers and resident innkeepers for achieving our consistent highly rated reviews. Everyone is dedicated to keeping a clean and orderly space while maintaining a friendly and homey atmosphere. Thank you for choosing to stay with us!
